New Gun Owners - Gun Safety

Gun Safety

New Gun Owners,

Firearms can be a great tool for protecting you, your family, others, and your property. I am thankful that we live in a country that it is our constitutional right to bear arms. I give thanks to the men and women who served and who are currently serving to protect us and our rights.

However, as a new gun owner, there are some rules that are crucial to follow when it comes to being safe with your new firearm. It is your responsibility to familiarize yourself with these rules and keep yourself accountable to them.

 The 4 Firearm Rules:

1. Treat all guns as if they are loaded.

2. Never point a firearm at anyone or anything you are not willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.

4. Know your target and what’s beyond it.

Whether you plan on using your new gun for recreational use at the range, shooting in competitions, or for protection, it is important to follow these rules 100 percent of the time.

As a new gun owner, you have an advantage in practicing gun safety. You don’t have any bad habits to break. If you consciously think of these rules whenever handling a firearm, you will develop and maintain these safe habits easier than someone who may already have bad habits.

Keep yourself accountable to these rules. If someone points out that you violated one of these rules, try not to be defensive and argumentative about your actions. Take the criticism to be constructive and consciously make the effort to be safer. These rules are ultimately to keep you and others safe.

Firearm Security:

You must also think about how you will keep the firearm safe if it’s not in use or on your person.

Does your state have specific laws that require certain storage? Are there others that live in your household that you would like to restrict access from? Are there children in the household?

These factors must be taken into account.

If you plan on using the firearm for protection, quick and reliable access is crucial in rapidly developing dangerous situations.

Here at StopBox we have safety in mind, while understanding how critical quick and reliable access must be to your firearm. The StopBox was designed to help prevent unintentional access by others while keeping the firearm accessible for protection in high stress situations.
